Who on earth would suggest that Sligo is (arguably) the world’s Number 1 short break golf links destination?

We do!!

Our argument is based on the following points:

1. The Best Links Courses in the World

First of all, the best links courses in the world are to be found in Scotland and Ireland. Only recently Ireland’s North and West coast links courses were voted Number 1 in Europe and since Scotland is still within Europe, this means that Ireland has beaten Scotland with regards to links courses!

2. Easy Access

Secondly, when it comes to organizing golf tours one of the first considerations is access. Sligo has four international airports within two and a half hours drive, whereas Dublin only has two. Within two and half hours distance from Sligo are Shannon, Knock, Belfast and Dublin airports, whilst Dublin only has Dublin and Belfast airports.

3. Loads of Links
Thirdly and perhaps most excitingly, Sligo boasts the highest concentration of links courses within close proximity in Ireland. Admittedly the top links course in Ireland is Royal County Down on Northern Ireland’s East coast. However in Sligo, within 45 minutes drive from Connaught’s only golf resort, Castle Dargan Hotel, 5 championship links courses are easily accessed. Visit Bellmullet, Inniscrone, Strandhill, County Sligo at Rosses Point and Murvagh link courses within no time at all. From Sligo you can also easily access a number of good parkland courses, such as the renowned Lough Erne.

4. Value for Money
Fourthly, if all of this wasn’t enough to convince you that Sligo is the ideal golf holiday location, perhaps value for money will have you sold! Traditionally most visiting golfers, along with many other tourists, are held in ignorance and directed towards south of Dublin and Galway, where they are sure to encounter green fees, sometimes as much as €200 Euro per person. Whereas in Sligo’s excellent link courses green fees range from €25 to €90!

5. Quality Support Services
Fifthly, in terms of support services and infrastructure, Sligo is fully equipped and ready to provide for your golfing holiday with a number of excellent hotels, restaurants, lively pubs, and many other attractions, along with quality service providers such as minibus and coach companies. For the past decade Discovery Tours has organized golf tours for European and American golf parties and consistently finds that the more experienced links golfers, whilst wanting to imbibe the challenge of some of the links courses on the South and South West and North Cost, chose to spend most of their time based in Sligo.
